What are rent benefits and am I entitled to it?

Rental benefits are a financial contribution from the Dutch government, so that Dutch citizens can pay a rental home. These benefits are intended for people with a lower income, so it does not apply to everyone.

You are entitled to rent benefits if you are:

  • Dutch or European or Type I, II or III residence permit
  • 18 years or older
  • Registered at the municipality where you are going to rent
  • Have a rental agreement
  • Rent an independent living space: - Private living room and bedroom - Own kitchen with sink, supply/drainage for water and a connection point for cooking appliances. - Own toilet with water flush
  • Your gross taxable income may not exceed €22,400 per year.
  • The rental price (basic rent including service costs) may not exceed the following: - Less than 23 years old: €225.08 - €417.34. - Older than 23 years: €225.08 - €710.68.
  • The service costs may not exceed €12, -. These consist of: - Energy costs for public spaces (not own living space) - Cleaning costs for common rooms - Master costs - Capital and maintenance costs
