"Because of the online lessons it is sometimes quite a challenge to keep motivating myself, but that gives me more time to spend with my family in Germany"
Linda (22) is from Berlin in Germany. She is in the third year of the study called University College Venlo at Maastricht University - Campus Venlo. She chose this study because she heard so many good things about Maastricht University. And when she came up with courses on nutrition and psychology at her current study in Venlo, she was sure that it will suited her. She also likes the fact that it’s an English-language school and she also found it interesting how interdisciplinary the school is, because she had never really seen this at German universities. It’s a small school and that means that you have a lot of personal contact with teachers, professors and fellow students. Everyone knows you by name instead of you being a number. Linda also likes that the school is so international that you learn a lot from different perspectives and cultures.
What she wants to do after her program, she is not quite sure yet because the study is so broad. A lot of people are studying medicine around her, so that seems interesting to her. She finds the prevention of diseases, making the population healthier and prevention rather than treatment interesting. In addition, Linda would like to do something in education and to transfer her knowledge.
Linda likes the atmosphere in Venlo because it’s such a small and pleasant city with many young people. “That way you quickly come into contact with each other”. She misses the social aspect the most in times of corona. "Because of the online lessons, it is sometimes quite a challenge to keep motivating myself, but that also gives me more time to spend with my family in Germany." She misses going to the library and being on campus with classmates. She now mainly has contact via the WhatsApp group of the study program where they can ask questions and help each other. In addition to studying, Linda can now be found in the kitchen more often and tries out new plant-based recipes. She loves baking and cooking and experiments with them. She also thinks it’s important to keep fit and she regularly does a home workout with friends via a YouTube video. She also lives close to the Maas where she likes to go for a walk or run and get some fresh air.
